What is City of Craft?
That's a very good question. The short answer is that City of Craft is both an alliance of community arts organizers that present and support local crafty activities and Toronto's largest independently run juried craft sale featuring craft-based installations, free workshops, and craft-related programming in local businesses and galleries.
The long answer is here.
How many participants are there at your annual show?
Between vendors, installation operators, workshop leaders, and neighbourhood partners we have over 70 organisations, businesses and individuals participating in City of Craft. For actual tabelling vendors, the show has settled into 45-50 year (depending on table size and allocation).
How many years has City of Craft been happening?
2011 will be year five! 2007 was our first year.
How do I apply?
Applications for 2011 are sceduled to open May 1 (but might start little earlier or a little later). Applications will be live until August 31, 2010 at midnight EST. Sign up for our participant mailing list to be kept in the loop for all of this.
How are participants selected?
All of our events are programmed in different ways - some are curated and invitational (sometimes programmed by guest curators), some are lotteries, some are free-for-alls. The big winter show, however, is juried by City of Craft core organizers and an invited a panel of jurors with seasoned backgrounds in the craft and DIY communities.
Do you need volunteers? And can I be one?
We sure do! There are all sorts of volunteer jobs up for grabs from postering to set-up to consessions and more! Please email volunteer@cityofcraft.com if you are interested in volunteering. We'd love to have you!
